I like sustainability.
Our planet is important. Duh. We live here. This is our home. And you wouldn’t dump trash all over your house, or pump toxic fumes into your bedroom. Not caring for the earth is just as irresponsible.
So what am I doing about that? Well, I’m a fanatical recycler — just ask my roommates! I’ll carry a plastic cup for miles if I know there is hope for a proper recycling bin. I enforce the recycling rules when I see them being broken in my apartment. I’ve instituted a comprehensive recycling policy at the Boston University College of Fine Arts IT Office, where I’m currently an Operations Manager. We now recycle cardboard, plastic cans and bottles, plastic packaging material, CDs and DVDs, and quite a few other things.
I’m the student leader for the BU College of Fine Arts CarbonRally team. CarbonRally is essentially an online challenge to reduce your carbon footprint. Together, the members of the College of Fine Arts team (within the greater BU CarbonRally League) have symbolically eliminated 1.98 tons of carbon dioxide!
I’m also a member of CFA Green at the College of Fine Arts, representing the IT Office. Our goal is to make the College more sustainable, with goals such as more widespread recycling in the building, reducing energy consumption, and reduce material consumption by recycling and reusing art, set pieces, costumes, etc.
I attended Live Earth, which was Al Gore’s “concert for a climate in crisis” in New Jersey in July of 2007. I’m a member of Repower America, Climate Protection Action Fund, Alliance for Climate Protection, 1Sky, among many others, and I’ve donated to Trees for the Future and the World Wildlife Fund. I also have a Terrapass Carbon Offset for my car’s carbon dioxide emissions.
